The suction stroke is the first stroke of an any engine. Here the Air-fuel mixture in correct proportions from the carburetors is suck to an engine.
Here is the second stroke of the petrol engine.At completion of this stroke in an engine there is a high pressure and tempaerature of spark will be produced.
This is the power stroke of an engine. The power can be developed during this stroke.At this stroke both inlet valve and echaust valve should closed. Then only complete combustion will takes place in an engine.

For Mechanical, Production, Automobile Engineers must know about the working principle of an Engine. How does combustion takes place. For that I have post the working of four stroke diesel engine which may be easy to understand.

The compression ratio of Petol engines in the range of 7-10 meanwhile the compression ratio of Diesel engine ranges between 16-20.

Stroke is nothing but the piston movement from the top dead centre (TDC) to the Bottom dead Centre (BDC).

The exhaust stroke is the final stroke of an engine. Here the exhaust emission such as NOx, CO, CO2, Ash content were released through the exhaust line or silencer.
In advanced the three way catalytic converter is most widely used for automobiles. it is like in honeycom structure.The three emissions such CO,HC and NOx of the exhaust can be controlled from the exhaucst link or from the silencer. Thats way we can reduce the air pollution in the surroundings.
